Prohibition of Turnigla part II
Prohibition of Turnigla part II
The community of Trin-Mulin is trying to place a prohibition for the second part in the Val Turnigla.
They don't want to take the risk of being responsible for any failure of the water capture.
Therefore they are trying to set a prohibition for the lower part of the Val Turnigla.
Despite of that prohibition; canyoning in the lower part should still be possible but on your own risk as always.....
What do you guys think of that?
Same problem in France?

What a shame
Is there any swiss canyoneering association that can make anything about this?
But there's something I don't understand : what kind of prohibition let you do canyoning anyway?
Maybe the community of Trin Mulin just want to discharge responsability in case of trouble

We will for sure intervene in this action from Trin-Mulin.
Timo Stammwitz www.grandcanyons.ch is already organizing something.
Otherwise this could be an example for other regions where also a water capture is installed in the canyon.
This happened also at the Fallenbach and Rombach canyons (Amden) where both canyons end in a captured lake.
It took a lot of effort that the electricity company couldn't get a prohibition to do the canyon.
Rivers, canyons and lakes belongs to the public and not to any electrical company or village.
If there is no restriction due to nature protection the water and place is open for all.
@Antilolo
It is allowed to do any canyon in Switzerland, unless there is a prohibition.
If there is a prohibition, the insurance company won't pay anything if you have an accident in such a canyon.
And the Trin-Mulin community may also be able to charge you if they see you doing canyoning there.
@Robert:
I have only the Swiss newspaper version in German where Trin-Mulin states that they want to try to place a prohibition for the Val Turnigla canyon.

what a shaaaaaaaaaaame!
Holzi, to answer your question: yes we do have the same problem in France, lots of canyons are forbidden because of water capture.
Gourfouran in Hautes-Alpes is an example. Some tests have been done to try to prove that there were no danger in case of hatch opening... well unfortunately, the result was that it was indeed dangerous.. so the canyon is still forbidden and will stay so.
Switzerland seemed to be different: in Tessin, the way things are done is juste close to perfection!
Dongo, which is under a dam, is not fordidden: it would certainly be in France...
Let's just hope that things will not follow this direction in Switzerland...

Just let me know if anybody is interested in the newspaper article. I can sent it by E-mail --> but it is written in German.
@Laurinette:
As you said, it is just perfect how it works in the Tessin.
About 50% of the canyons have there a water capture somewhere above the canyon.
This would be the ideal solution for all the canyons with water capture above, but not all regions in Switzerland see that canyoning is also a touristic benefit.

I hope the swiss canyoneers will manage to do as much lobbying as possible.
Unfortunately the canyoning community in Switzerland seems to be too small and too scattered to weight much... Maybe in this very case the biggest part of the job could come from professionnals?
The situation in France is similar in many ways, and much different in others. People in charge are even more eager to forbid everything than in Switzerland, fearing responsabilities and feeling the popularity of outlawing so-called dangerous activities, negatively presented by the media each time an accident happens (the rescue cost and the immoderate risks taken being always cited). It is always an easy position to single out a misunderstood minority with negligible economic and electoral weight.
As regards prohibition in facts, there are many more edicted, but law enforcement seems much less effective (and more permissive) than in Switzerland. Perhaps this is a natural way of dampening the regulation overflow...
If you have an accident in a forbidden canyon, you can be sure that the consequences for you will be far worse in Switzerland than in France (which is NOT a reason for trespassing in France).
There are several levels of prohibition in France. The local level has got nearly no power, and can be easily broken through a legal action. The french canyoning lobbies (amateurs and professionals) are more powerfull in France than in Switzerland, and generally manage to act together against such local prohibitions (despite their divisions).
In case of a water capture, in France, there generally is a strong prohibition on the canyon, almost impossible to rise. Negociating with the company responsible for electricity production is very difficult. But from what I see of how things are happening in Switzerland, especially in Ticino, I think you have more discussion possibilities than in France to prevent the prohibition.

Warning, for Gondo the situation is more complexe.
the situation between France and Swyztzerland is different because the histories juridics traditions are different. The free move (liberté de mouvements) is a fondamental right taller than a french. Same whether the community want ban the canyon (The community have a power equal at a state).
The swiss must beat. As tell him Holzy, If a prohibition succed, in all swiss the prohibition will increase.
Do prohibition the Eiger ??? No, because it's Alpinist. So, why do any prohibitions for the canyon. It's a scandalous.
But, us French, we can't nothing do. For some arguments historics that I don't explain (The French revolution, the helvetican republic...) we can't call out to the communauty of Trin Mulin. The Swiss only can negociate with people of Trin Mulin. But, it's necessary that the swiss canyoner get organise. In Swistzerland don't exist a organization of canyon. The professionals only have a representative organisation (Enfin plus ou moins ).
The Frenchs, Italians, native of luxemburg ... can bring a help for organise à big lunch rustic front of electrical building But, we can't do more

Interdit on l'Eiger.
