Finally we (Timo Stammwitz and me) managed yesterday to open the Ronentobel Canyon. \:D/ \:D/
The canyon is beautiful and on some parts really narrow.
The rock structure and paintings are just amazing.
We had around 150l/sec at the beginning and 250l/sec at the end which was perfect.
It took us 5.5h including drilling. There are in total 450m altitude difference from the start to the end.
Total around 25 cascades up to +/-22m.
There are unfortunately no slides and jumps. But it is one of the most beautiful canyons for just abseiling.
My rating is 3.2/4. O:)
See some impressions here:

Salut

I added an access description on picasa (last picture) so the following description refers to the acces plan:

And here some more informations: \:D/
The best thing is if you have two cars and park them as shown.
P1 --> drive as far as possible just next to the riverbed.
P2 --> drive as far as you can (driving prohibition) and walk to the start and big bridge +/-300m
The canyon itself takes about 3-4h (we had 5.5h including drilling and brake)
The perfect ropes lengths are 40m + 20m
After the canyon you have to walk for 1h in the riverbed of the Furna river. It's a nice walk and there is a possibility to grill on half way :-)
There is also a good restaurant close to the canyon (marked on the map)
To get to Pragmartin you have to drive from Landquart in direction Davos.
Enjoy the Canyon :-)

Yes it is really an amazing canyon.
It surprises me that there are still such beautiful canyons to find and doing first descents....
There are still a lot of potential highlight canyons.... :-# \:D/

Congratulation for the first repeat. =D>
I hope you enjoyed the descend.
I do not agree with you concerning the water level. [-X
Anyhow, if there was 150l/sec or only 30l/sec, the photos show a reference and the descent is still ok for experienced canyoneers with the double amount shown in my photos.
Just be aware that after rain periods the water level doubles to the end because of the several influx.
Just enjoy \:D/

First commercial descent in the Ronetobel! \:D/
We did the descent of the Ronen canyon in 7h with eight people from the Furna village, two guides and one photographer.... :D

The water level was very sporty @ 200-250l at the beginning and 400-500l at the end.
http://picasaweb.google.ch/namaholz/Ronentobel22082010#

The canyon has changed a lot since our first descent, several anchors were up to 1.5m higher then we placed them, due to sediment transportation of the high water in the last weeks.

It is highly recommended to take an emergency drill into this canyon.

Just enjoy O:)

   are you really sure the tide was between 200 and 450 l/s???
on your pictures, and fortunately for you, it definitely looks more like 100 l/s MAXIMUM to me...

anyway, it DOES look like a great canyon! it is quite amazing that such a descend was still unexplored!

We measured in the middle of the canyon where the rock was perfect formed: 30cm deep, 50-60cm wide and the water had a speed of +/- 2m/sec. = +/- 300l/sec.
I don't know how you measure the water level but this is mathematically the correct way, except that the water speed is at the border a bit slower than in the middle of the channel. 8-[

Well, this is a big topic, which has been dealt with several times yet:
http://www.descente-canyon.com/forums/v ... d=7637&p=2

to make it short, most people consider it is more or less impossible to have a precise estimation of the tide just by looking at the flow !!!
most of the time, the water speed is estimated to be around 0.5 m/s. Considering that it goes, as you pointed out, more slowly at the edges, maybe this speed is more probable than 2 m/s.
I say MAYBE: I was not in the canyon, and you were, so you know better !!!!!

That would signify that the tide was around 50 and 110 l/s, which is fairly high. For most canyons, and most canyoneers, it could be far too much.

It guess both of us are wrong in our estimations of tides, because to be precise you need real measures.

But what I'm quite sure of, is that, if you go in Val Tür (very nice canyon by the way) with 300 to 600 l/s as is advised in the summary is DC.com, you're going to have very big problems.

Anyway, it looks like your clients were in safety, in a great canyon, and enjoying themselves: what more to ask for?

You are right, it is realy difficult to estimate the correct water flow. ](*,)
The best thing is to indicate the levels by photos as Luca Nizzola did on his Ticino guidebook. =D>
Because everyone has a different way to estimate the water flow in the canyon.
Do you have any photos online of yor descents of Val Tür or Ronentobel?
