Timo and I opened at the 31.07 the so far highest freehanging waterfall in Ticino.
Ri della Crosa with a height of 129m of which are 115m free hanging.
Ri della Crosa is located at the very end of the Maggia valley, a bit further than San Carlo.

The canyon starts at 1720m and continous very nice with some jumps and slides to the edge of the giant waterfall.
From there you abseil 15m just below the lip where you have to clip in in a free hanging anchor place.
From there you abseil streight down without rock contact to the bottom. Amazing :D

The rest of the canyon is less interesting and continous but covers still two more nice abseils.

It is a hard canyon and only recommendet for those with good rope skills on long abseils. It is very exposed!
When you like Froda, then this is a good canyon for you.

hello back !

ok i see the approach on the website,it's on the left orographic side isn't it ?

can you sen me by private mail, or you can post on the website if you have time (sure the others canyoneers will appreciate to do this cross ! ), the details about the descent please ?

time of approach and return,difficulties, rope length exactly,tips etc....?

me and my friends will be in ticino next week.....so maybe we will do this big one !

Info for Crosa:

Park at the bridge at point 1197m
Then crossing the river and continue to point 1378m. Then switch back and join the canyon at 1720m
The approach takes 1h-1h20min

At the beginning until the big drop are several small abseils up to 25m or jumps & slides.

Starting from the pool before the big drop the abseils are the following:
15m abseil following the waterstram just underneath the lip where the water shoots out in the air.
There are two good placed anchors where you can abseil in one step down 115m (not less). The rope is not touching the rock until you reach the bottom.
So in total you need 1 x 115m and several smaller pieces completing the 115m for pulling down the rope.
The pull down is very easy.

The difficulty is to manage all the ropework at the start belay of the 115m drop.

Al the rest is good managable.

After the big drop there is a boulder downclimb section followed by some more abseils between 15m-45m.

The big thing is the 129m waterfall. Really impressive and if the sun is shining there are one or two rainbows :mrgreen:

The exit of the canyon is at 1260m.

Salut

Quelques remarques:

- Saison après fonte et de deux jours après crue (29.07.2013 avec 10 m3/s, ca baisse très vite). Sauf crue avant ca peut etre glissant.
- Parking tout au fond de la Valle di Peccia, route interdite / fermé de la barrière. La carrière du fameux marbre de Peccia ne permette pas de parking sur son terrain.
- En tout cas à faire, un grand rappel si beau se fait rarement.
- Pour après-canyon je conseille Ristorante LAVIZZARA à Sornico, le proprietaire s'interessait bien pour la nouvelle descente et notre sport. La première y était theme avec tout la population :D :D En plus je ne connais pas d'autre herberge qui vous offre déjà à 06:00 le petit déjeuner au Tessin. :D O:)

oui....effectivement le grand rappel semble unique !
au vu des photos, cela me fait bien penser lorsque l'on se trouve au r13 de bras mazerin (ile de la reunion) ceux qui connaissent comprendront ambiance ambiance !!!
une belle croix a cocher impérativement en 2014......la vérité vraie !!
