Merci,
Derry

you've already done most of the best!
It's hard to say anything with the crap weather we have this year
If the water levels stays high, you can easily do those:
Osogna sup
val Grande
Palme
Aldirei which is not so bad with a nice water flow
Il Valegiom that Timo just opened seems worth it and a good option if there is too much water
http://www.descente-canyon.com/forums/v ... p?id=17158
You could also think of moving a bit to Graubunden (Grischun) do amazing canyons like
- if the weather is fine and no rain for several days before (and Santa Claus exists...) Radeinbach, Turnigla,
- you have more chances to find good conditions in Lawoïbach, surcruns and Lavadignas. Lawoï is the best of those I think
Alternatively sometimes it is useless to stay in Ticino waiting for nice weather, and it is better to move to Italy (Lombardia ou val d'ossola)
I didn't quite understand this question "2. Souhaitez les canyons en aval du barrage de bien se passer?" (but thanks for trying !

Thanks for the response. I think i'll stick to english as you are much better at it than i am at french!
I was wondering if the canyon's below the dam's will all be ok or is there so much water that the dam's are releasing (very) regularly?Laurinette a écrit :you've already done most of the best!

Yes, i've been tracking the 'new' canyons on the forum so interested in looking at those if others are not possible

We have accommodation booked in Claro so we would prefer not to drive long distance unless we really need to!

Ironically, some friends of ours are joining us from italy - they have been trying to canyon there over the last few months and they have had to cancel trips due to water levels.

for the canyons under dams, probably they will be fine but if there is any risk, they will tell you so when you call them (unfortunately, most of the time they don't speak english I think).
The thing to know is that most of the time it is just water capture and not dams. So there is no possibility to keep water: if the water level rises during the day to exceed the intake possibility, the surplus goes into the river.
Malvaglia has a huge dam (and by the way it is a good option too as the dam moderates the flow)
For the others the water intakes are, more often than not, linked together (if my information is right), so there is a possibility that the water from one stream is sent into another one in case of technical problems for instance.
I'm sending you a private message for more informations.

Thanks Laurinette! Last year we managed to communicate with the dam workers in a combination of italian/french/english; thankfully our italian friends will be along this yearLaurinette a écrit :for the canyons under dams, probably they will be fine but if there is any risk, they will tell you so when you call them (unfortunately, most of the time they don't speak english I think).

Hi Derry
Actually you will find a lot of Ticino canyons between slippery and very slippery. The last good cleaning highwater was in early may, the rain falls after were not intense enough. With some exeptions already at beginning of june most of the canyons became slippery with brown algae.
The snow melting period is this year longer than normal in Ticino, the effect on the water level of the big canyon with a source above 2000m is actually still about 20-40% of the flow. Looking on the actual flows, the period you can also do the big ones is not so fare away anymore, fore example Iragna will have actually about 400-500 l/s, Lodrino about 600-700 l/s.
What to do when the weather wont bring a good cleaning flood until you come to Ticino:
Longest time not slippery:
- Pontirone inferiore
- Lodrino
- Carecchio (new)
- Moleno
Long time not slippery:
- Iragna
- Nala superiore
- Salto
- Boggera superiore
- Agro (new)
- Uregn (new)
- Büsai (new)
- Quarantiera (new)
- Ria Ribia (new)
- Cortesell (new)
- Osura (new)
In the three weeks until you come there can still change a lot and a heavy rain can bring all canyons in best conditions. One week before it should be possible to consider the best ones to do with the actual situation.
Gruass, Timo

Perfect, Timo, thanks for both posts. Really helpful to get this level of information.
Really looking forward to getting back to ticino!
